Places to Eat

Ohio Club

This restaurant and bar is over 100 years old, the oldest in Arkansas. It was even visited by famous gangsters in the 1920’s, including Al Capone.

The Ohio Club continues to serve tasty food, and they even have live music on some nights.

I ordered the Ohio Burger, which had bacon, an onion ring, and pepper jack cheese. It was delicious, and so were the fries!

Pour Some Sugar on Me

If you’re looking for a sweet treat, try Pour Some Sugar on Me Sweet Shoppe in downtown Hot Springs. This candy store has so much to choose from including dozens of flavors of candy and ice cream and over 100 flavors of cotton candy. In fact, I specifically came to this sweet shop to try the cotton candy burrito, which is a few scoops of ice cream wrapped inside cotton candy!

Places to Stay

We spent the night at Embassy Suites Hot Springs. My favorite thing about Embassy Suites is the delicious complimentary breakfast! Although I have to say, this particular Embassy Suites impressed me with the view from our room.

Things to do in Hot Springs, Arkansas

Hot Springs

There are 2 places where you can touch the hot water of the thermal springs: Hot Water Cascade and The Display Spring. I only visited the Hot Water Cascade.

This spot in the middle of town shows the water cascading down into a pool. You can touch the water, and it is hot but shouldn’t burn you.

Garvan Woodland Gardens

Garvan Woodland Gardens is a beautiful botanical garden that is perfect for exploring and taking scenic photos. There are few areas you’ll definitely want to check out. The Bridge of the Full Moon in particular is an excellent spot for taking photos.

Once you reach the far end of the gardens, you’ll get to see this scenic view:

On your way out, don’t forget to visit the Evans Children’s Adventure Garden. Even though it says “Children,” don’t let that deter you if you don’t have kids with you. This spot has one of the most interesting tree houses that makes a great photo spot.

As you can see, it’s big enough for adults to explore as well as children. Since we visited in November, it was decorated for Christmas.

Anthony Chapel

In the same area as Garvan Woodland Gardens is the beautiful Anthony Chapel. While the gardens charge an entry fee, you can view the inside or outside of the chapel free of charge.

Assuming there aren’t any weddings or events going on, you should be able to go inside. You don’t want to miss this building’s breathtaking interior.

We actually stopped by the chapel before going into Garvan Woodland Gardens. It’s within walking distance, so you’ll be able to see scenic areas like this creek that we found.

Bathhouses

I regret that I didn’t have time to visit the famous historic bathhouses in Hot Springs, so I may have to go back one day! There is nowhere outside to soak in the thermal springs, but inside the Buckstaff Bathhouse and Quapaw Bathhouse on Bathhouse Row you can experience a soak in the authentic thermal waters and enjoy other spa treatments.

Downtown Hot Springs

The historic downtown Hot Springs is full of charming shops and tasty food options. You’ll see interesting architecture and, of course, murals. There’s plenty of art to see in the city, but the Hot Springs Strong mural is my favorite. What can I say? If I see a pair of wings on the wall I have to pose with them!

This mural can be found at 404 Central Ave., Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Hot Springs Mountain Tower

Only a short drive from Downtown Hot Springs, you’ll find the Hot Springs Mountain Tower. From the top, you’ll see a panoramic view high above the Ouachita Mountains.

You can enter the lobby and gift shop of the tower for free, but to take the elevator to the top you’ll need to pay general admission. I did not go to the top. Instead, I found this view nearby the base of the tower.Best things to do in Hot Springs Arkansas - View from Hot Springs Mountain

It’s quite a lovely view in person! This was within walking distance of the Mountain Tower parking area.

While I visited Hot Springs in the fall, this city would be great for a trip during any time of year. What are your favorite things to do in Hot Springs or the surrounding areas?
