3 Reasons Why You Should Keep a Travel Journal

Have you ever kept a travel journal? Maybe for a vacation or a period of time when you lived in another country? I received my travel journal as a birthday present before my trip to Canada, and I have gotten plenty of use out of it! There are so many good reasons to keep a travel journal, but I narrowed it down to my main 3. Use these 3 reasons for travel journaling to inspire you to journal on your next adventure!

1. Travel Journals Can Double as a Travel Planner

Travel journals are a great way to stay organized. You can use a page to keep track of your reservations or your budget. I don’t know about you, but I’m a big list person. You can make packing lists, bucket lists, or lists of places you want to stop on your trip.

Journaling doesn’t have to be just writing about things that already happened! It’s a great idea to make a list of things you want to do and check them off as you go. For example, you can make a page dedicated to your bucket list or restaurants you want to try.

Or maybe you aren’t the planning type you want your journal to be a bunch of spontaneity. That’s fine! If that’s the case then the next reason is for you!

2. Travel Journals are a Fun Creative Outlet

Who said travel journals just have to be a bunch of writing and scribbles? Yes, the writing is part of your journal, but you can also make it look any way you want with doodles and pictures. Use color and stickers to give it some life! I love to use my journal to keep little pieces of my trip like plane tickets, maps, or tickets for shows and activities.

The bottom line is: just be creative. Make your journal something you want it to be. You can also look on Pinterest for journal inspiration! I have a whole board of journal inspiration here!

3. Travel Journals Help You Remember the Details

Journaling can let you record the moments that you don’t want to forget and the times that you didn’t have your camera out. I don’t know about you, but I want to remember the little things that happened on a trip. Things I would probably forget if I didn’t write them down. You might say, “why would I ever want to remember that I took the wrong bus and got lost or spilled food all over myself at that restaurant?” But those are the things that will make you laugh one day when you want to relive your experience!

Plus, what’s a travel journal without pictures? Print out some of your favorite shots and write about what you were doing when you took the picture or what happened that day. Polaroids are an awesome option if your journal is small.
